“AFP” - Fewer Americans worry about climate change: poll

The number of Americans who are worried about global warming has fallen to nearly the historic low reached in 1998, a poll released Monday showed.

Just 51 percent of Americans - or one percentage point more than in 1998 - said they worry a great deal or fair amount about climate change, Gallup's annual environment poll says.

In 2008, a year after former US vice president Al Gore and the UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change won the Nobel Peace Prize, two-thirds of Americans were concerned about climate change.

“Sahil Kapur” - House Republicans secure votes to pass sweeping anti-abortion bill

By Sahil Kapur

March 16th, 2011

WASHINGTON – High-priority Republican legislation aimed at curtailing abortion rights across the United States is on its way to passage in the House, having secured enough co-sponsors for approval on the floor.

Sponsored by Rep. Chris Smith (R-NJ), H.R. 3, "The No Taxpayer Funding For Abortion Act," would eliminate employer deductions for health insurance if the plan includes abortion, effectively raising costs for employees' health insurance.

By Wednesday, hours before a Ways and Means subcommittee markup of the bill, it had gained 221 official co-sponsors, crossing the 218 threshold necessary for passage.

“Infowars” - Corporate Media Slowly Coming Around to Radiation Threat

Infowars.com

The ABC News report below reveals that the corporate media is finally beginning to grasp the severity of the radiation emanating from the Fukushima nuclear plant.

It was obvious over the weekend that the radiation situation at the plant was critical, but the media continued to rely on misleading and contradictory information released by the Japanese government and TEPCO, the Tokyo Electric Power Company.

Because of this deceptive practice, thousands if not millions of people are in danger. The area surrounding the plant should have been completely evacuated over the weekend.

“Steve Watson” - EPA Increases radiation monitoring In U.S.

http://www.prisonplanet.com/epa-increases-radiation-monitoring-in-u-s.html

We have received many questions from readers who are alarmed over a perceived lack of radiation monitoring in the U.S., in the wake of the possibility of radiation from the stricken Japanese nuclear plant reaching both Alaska and the West Coast.

Though the risk remains extremely minimal according to experts, the EPA issued a statement on its website yesterday, which was not picked up by any mainstream news source.

The statement reads:

“Cabaretic” - The Decline and Near Fall of the Mainstream Media Empire

Finally confirming a trend that many have long noted, the Los Angeles Times on Monday concluded that yes, more people now get their news from the internet than from newspapers.  To bloggers and purveyors of New Media alike, this should come as no surprise whatsoever.  Prior to this announcement, newspapers often closely guarded inside secrets like declining circulation, decreases in advertising revenue, forced buy-outs within individual papers, and an overall drop in quality of reporting.  I suppose that now, even mulish, intractable newspapers are having to concede that the handwriting has been on the wall for years.

“Dr. Mercola” - New Report Shows How You Get Addicted to Diet Soda

http://articles.mercola.com/sites/articles/archive/2011/03/16/new-report-shows-how-you-get-addicted-to-diet-soda.aspx
Surveys have found that people who drink diet beverages average more than 26 ounces per day, and some drink far more. About 3 percent of diet-soda drinkers have at least four daily.

Some may be addicted to caffeine, but that doesn't explain those who prefer caffeine-free varieties. Experts say that people can become both psychologically and physically dependent on it.

They may get addicted to diet soda because they associate it with a certain activity or behavior. And research also suggests that the artificial sweeteners in diet soda may prompt people to drink more, because they aren't as satisfying. CNN reports:

“Dr. Mercola” - The Sleeping Habit That Can Make You Hungrier, Plumper, and Forgetful

http://articles.mercola.com/sites/articles/archive/2011/03/16/this-modern-day-convenience-can-disrupt-your-metabolism-and-interfere-with-learning.aspx

Experiments on mice have shown that throwing off their ancient circadian rhythms by artificially altering the length of their days has a substantial impact on their bodies and brains. This suggests that the modern, round-the-clock lifestyle, made possible by electric lighting, could disrupt metabolism and interfere with learning in ways that are only just beginning to be understood.

Researchers put mice through 10 weeks in 20-hour light-dark cycles, instead of their natural 24-hour circadian cycle. After six weeks, the mice got fatter, showed less mental flexibility and were more impulsive.
