Obama Raises American Hypocrisy To A Higher Level

What does the world think? Obama has been using air strikes and drones against civilians in Afghanistan, Pakistan, Yemen, and probably Somalia. In his March 28 speech, Obama justified his air strikes against Libya on the grounds that the embattled ruler, Gadhafi, was using air strikes to put down a rebellion.

Chernobyl scientist says nuclear disaster produced 'invisible enemy'

The horrors of the world’s worst nuclear accident greeted Natalia Manzurova when she arrived in the Ukraine after the 1986 explosion at Chernobyl. Assigned by the Soviet government to study the accident’s fallout, Manzurova visited an abandoned nursery school and found a bony dog sleeping on a child’s cot. Its sagging, bleeding skin showed evidence of radiation burns. Through clouded eyes, the dog looked sadly at her.

Hark The Angel Speaks -- Obama Explains War To Nation Tonight

President Obama is slated to give a big speech to the Nation tonight celebrating the great Libyan offensive. As you may recall, the President already has cast the mission solely in humanitarian terms on his Saturday radio show, as the LA Times reported: "President Obama said Saturday that he sent U.S. warplanes into Libya a week ago to avert a 'humanitarian catastrophe' and a 'blood bath', and he denied that the U.S. is being drawn into a wider war there.

The Real Story of Our Economy -- Why Our Standard of Living Has Stalled Out

Do public sector workers earn more than private sector workers? Who cares? This boneheaded question has us fighting over the crumbs. (And the answer is no -- all credible studies show that when you account for educational levels, the total compensation packages are about the same.)

"Agence France-Presse" - Traces of Japan radioactivity in US rain

http://www.rawstory.com/rs/2011/03/28/traces-of-japan-radioactivity-in-us-rain/

By Agence France-Presse

Monday, March 28th, 2011 -- 5:26 pm

WASHINGTON – Traces of radioactivity from damaged nuclear power facilities in Japan have been detected in rainwater in the northeast United States, but pose no health risks, officials said.

The Environmental Protection Agency, in an update Sunday, said it had received reports of "elevated levels of radiation in recent precipitation events" in Massachusetts and Pennsylvania and that it was "reviewing this data."

The EPA has been monitoring radiation from the Fukushima nuclear plant in Japan, and had previously detected "very low levels of radioactive material" in the United States, while saying that these "were expected" and that "the levels detected are far below levels of public health concern."

"Elevated levels of radioactive material in rainwater have been expected as a result of the nuclear incident after the events in Japan since radiation is known to travel in the atmosphere," the EPA added.

The agency has stepped up its monitoring of precipitation, drinking water, and other potential exposure routes for radiation as a precaution.

Last week, EPA cited "minuscule levels of an isotope that were consistent with the Japanese nuclear incident," that also posed no "concern for human health."

"Sahil Kapur" - GOP welfare bill mostly harms poor children: hunger-relief group

By Sahil Kapur

Monday, March 28th, 2011 -- 3:40 pm

WASHINGTON – A hunger-relief group expressed deep concerns with a House GOP bill that would cap spending on food stamps, fearing it would target the least well-off and disproportionately harm children.

"We're very concerned that the food stamps provisions take us in exactly the wrong direction given the economic climate and the increased food security needs of Americans," Lisa Davis, vice president of policy at Feeding America, told Raw Story.

The bill, H.R. 1135, was introduced by Republican Reps. Jim Jordan (OH), Tim Scott (SC), Scott Garrett (NJ), Dan Burton (IN), and Louie Gohmert (TX). Its aim, in part, is "to provide an overall spending limit on means-tested welfare programs."

"Eric W. Dolan" - ‘Anonymous’ briefly knocks Warner Bros. Records’ website offline

http://www.rawstory.com/rs/2011/03/28/anonymous-knocks-warner-bros-records-offline/

By Eric W. Dolan

Monday, March 28th, 2011 -- 6:41 pm

In protest of a lawsuit against the file-sharing company LimeWire, the decentralized community of hacktivists known as "Anonymous" briefly knocked the website of Warner Bros. Records Inc. offline on Monday.

Warner Bros. Records and 12 other record companies are seeking $400 billion to $75 trillion in damages from LimeWire after the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) won a court battle with creators of the software over claims of copyright infringement.

The Warner Bros. Records' website was targeted by a distributed denial of service (DDoS) attack Monday as part of an online campaign known as "Operation Payback."
