As the World Crumbles, A New One Rises From its Ashes
Can we sculpt a world from ashes or should we try to exercise our forebrain and take action before it manifests the old Biblical adage of "Dust to dust, ashes to ashes...." In Greek mythology, there were two brothers, Prometheus and Epimetheus. The former, from the ancient Greek, translates as "Forethought" and the latter, "Afterthought". Which is the wiser? After whom should we follow? Let's pre-think this and put our bet down on Prometheus, who had the audacity to take fire from the Gods and gift it to man. The light of this fire, as I wrote in my first (as yet unpublished) book, Prometheus & the Gift of Fire, in 1976, symbolizes man's consciousness-as-Divine.
Yet we use it by and large, for just producing more material goods and wealth. That was not, I don't believe, what it was designed for alone, but to inspire a species to greatness. So if we can 'catch ourselves in the act' of using our brain blindly, not activating Forethought 'ahead of time' as Yogi Berra might have said, we might save ourselves a lot of trouble down the road. And 'down' ain't that far away 'no more....' Yes, there's trouble in River City my friends, trouble. Just as the Music Man said.
Now we can either learn from the disaster in Japan and the virtual impossibility of containment of radioactivity generated by a nuclear power plant, or we can say, "oh, they're really safe. There just happens to be this one problem case..." Or is that like saying that we trust Monsanto and Big Pharma to be looking benevolently and compassionately after our health and well-being? This is one of the meanings of the phrase "Wake Up!" The lesson to learn is not how to build thicker concrete containment silos, but rather don't produce something so lethal that it has to be contained!
The very existence of nuclear power, let alone arms, for a species given a rational function, is unspeakably regressive. We have got to put an end to it, that is, ALL nuclear activity, for electricity & bombs. Enough, as they say, is enough. We didn't learn from Hiroshima, 3-Mile Island or Chernobyl, or the many thousand smaller leaks and incidents across the world. Let's learn from THIS ONE!

Phone calls, visits and hard copy letters are more effective but email is better than doing nothing. You don’t have to write a long letter. Suggestions: Please stop water fluoridation because people should have the right to choose whether or not they or their children will consume fluoride. Studies show fluoride is harmful to some people – especially babies who get fluoride overdosed if infant formula is made with NYC’s fluoridated tap water. Many adverse side effects are linked to fluoride ingestion.
Stopping fluoridation is one of the easiest ways to improve your health. It doesn’t require hours at the gym, nine servings of raw fruits and vegetables or eating bland tasting small portions of food - All that’s required is that the fluoride injection system be shut down and the political will to do so. Our Society Has Gone Astray & Askew...Obvious? Ask the Kogi
I'm making some fun, but this unfortunately underscores the skewed, bizarre thinking of many, especially if they profit from things that are "of questionable color", like nuclear energy in any form, war(military), fake food GMO/Frankenfood), water rights (called riparian rights but should be called 'raparian rights'), insurance, Big Pharma, oil, the chemical industries and yes, commercial media.
Yes, I'm taking a big paw and slapping down all of these industries indiscriminately, which is completely unreasonable, admittedly. There are valuable distinctions to be made, but the overall thrust of our economics is rape/pillage/exploit at virtually any expense which is just the opposite of what creates a happy, healthy, rational and creative society. Interestingly, as many of you know, there are indigenous societies which continue to live close to the land and to each other, close to the animal, plant and mineral kingdoms, as well as to the heartbeat of the Earth, and whose overall human, physical, psychic, emotional and spiritual development far exceeds ours. The Kogi in the Andes is one of them. True, they have not developed the technology we have, but they have benefits in living that technology does not yield, such as happiness, radiant health and well-being, love, compassion and just thinking and actions.
It is truly up to us, as it has always been, to live our lives as we see fit, purchase locally as we see fit, and make economic choices which we know influence the political climate. Laws, such as Senate Bill 510, which we at A Better World rallied against as much as we could, impedes our ability to simply live the lives we choose and is therefore unconstitutional, as are many other statutes on the books.
Our spiritual quest should include the quest for human decency, freedom, equality and justice.
Japan Needs our Help in All Forms
We are facing one of the most critical events in modern history with this particular earthquake and tsunami, in confluence with the nuclear radiation catastrophe which is currently erupting. We don't know how far-reaching it is but already some radioactivity has passed through an enormous ocean and is being found, if only in trace amounts, in California. This is how serious the catastrophe is. And now small amounts have been found New England rainwater. But somehow we think that the world is not one, most people's understanding of the law quantum physics called The Butterfly Effect is a hoax. Yet this law enunciates an eternal truth that both science and the wisdom traditions know to be so. "What Ye do to one, Ye do to all my children" is the same understanding of fractal relationships, the sage adage of the alchemists: As Above, So Below and as Within so Without".
(I like "Ye"! Perhaps we should bring that back along with Thou--perhaps people would treat each other, and themselves, with greater respect and dignity. These words evoke both...)
It is nothing short of heartbreaking what our Japanese family is going through right now, due again, to the whimsies of their ruling class. And we are positioned for same, with the very same Mark I nuclear reactor by GE, populating our U.S. soil. Though all nuclear reactors bode horrific danger and should all be closed down from my point of view. ALL. Even if we eased out of them over a 2-3 year period as we mount intelligently-designed wind turbines and the state-of-the-art solar panels, along with our high-efficiency generators and the like--in sum, we've got the technologies--there is no shortage.
