Republican Rep. Ron Paul (R-TX) will officially announce the launch of his presidential exploratory committee on Tuesday.

David Weigel of Slate confirmed that the libertarian-leaning congressman will launch his third presidential bid in Des Moines, Iowa.

The congressman appears to be prepping for the launch of his presidential exploratory committee by making the media rounds. The Des Moines Register reported that Paul would make appearances on ABC’s The View, Fox News’ Hannity and Comedy Central’s The Colbert Report on Monday.

Paul has already won a number of straw polls to gauge popularity ahead of the 2012 presidential race, coming out on top in survey's conducted in key South Carolina counties, Sacramento and at the Conservative Political Action Conference.

Paul has raised nearly $3 million dollars during the first quarter of 2011 through his political action committee and nonprofit organization. The congressman raised $1 million through LibertyPAC and $2 million through his nonprofit, Campaign for Liberty. The funds from his nonprofit cannot be used for a potential political campaign.
