“Megan Carpentier” - Michele Bachmann: ‘Obamacare is a crime against democracy’

By Megan Carpentier

Sunday, March 6th, 2011

Appearing on Meet The Press Sunday, Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-MN) -- the chair of the Tea Party Caucus -- told host David Gregory that the health care reform measure pushed by President Obama was a "crime against democracy."

In response to a question from Gregory about the compromise recently offered by Obama -- that states could opt out of participating in the health care reform in 2014 if they could expand coverage without raising costs -- Bachmann pronounced herself unconvinced.

Nothing new in 20 years: Nearly everyone still wants genetically modified food labeled

At this MSNBC poll [http://bit.ly/fTMqV8], over 40,000 people have voted strongly in favor of labeling genetically modified foods: 96% of all respondents. But, a review of several polls going back to 1994 reveals that the numbers have always been high -- the vast majority of people have always wanted GM labels. That biotech foods have remained unlabeled for nearly 20 years in the US reveals a deliberate and willful refusal by regulatory agencies to serve the will of the people, instead opting to abet industry profits through public deception.

THE TRUTH ABOUT GMOs

The last 12 months have seen a number of biotech industry lies bite the dust. One of them is that developing countries are hot for GMOs with only affluent Westerners obstructing their acceptance. In fact, the opposite has been shown to be the case with deeply rooted resistance to GM crops becoming more and more apparent in developing countries in the face of the heavily financed efforts of US-based and GM industry-led interests to push GM crops.

Dead baby dolphins continue to wash ashore on Gulf beaches

Dozens of dead baby and adult dolphins have washed ashore on Gulf beaches since the beginning of the year, according to new reports. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) says the rising death count is exceptionally high, especially because the normal birthing season for dolphins -- a time at which some baby dolphins inevitably end up dying -- is normally several months from now.

Every Five Minutes Someone Dies from a Blood Clot or Deep Vein Thrombosis

Each year between 100,000-180,000 Americans die as the result of pulmonary embolism, a complication from blood clots in the lungs. The Vascular Disease Foundation urges Americans, especially women, to learn about the risks of venous blood clots to help prevent these deaths. While men and women are at equal risk, the risk for deep vein thrombosis, or blood clots, varies depending on where a woman is in her lifecycle, her hormone levels, and if she has a family history of clotting disorders.

Ralph Nader: Selling Out Injured Baby Rights

New York State's Governor Andrew Cuomo will be judged harshly by history if he doesn't reverse his position supporting limiting the legal rights of brain damaged babies. Imagine a life-time $250,000 cap on pain and suffering and families having to endure a burdensome and humiliating struggle to get medical bills paid as they arise from an insurance funded entity.

Fools at the Pump

The price of gas at the pump is now averaging $3.65 a gallon in California and has already edged up to $4 in San Francisco and Chicago. Nationwide, it’s at $3.38, a 20-cent rise in the last week (six cents last Friday alone). Meanwhile, in testimony before the Senate Banking Committee on Tuesday, Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke spoke optimistically of the economy and dismissed the impact of soaring oil prices, spurred by turmoil in the Middle East. “The most likely outcome,” he said, “is that the recent rise in commodity prices will lead to, at most, a temporary and relatively modest increase in U.S. consumer price inflation.”

David Swanson: Manchurian Senators

People are doing journalism and the Washington Post is pissed. How to respond? Apparently the answer arrived at by Post editors is to just give up on any Americans who have been informing themselves and target those Americans who believe anything that super important people say. How else to explain an op-ed full of documented lies and published last Friday over the byline of two Democratic senators, Carl Levin and Jack Reed?
