Cancer groups ignore chemicals, food additives as culprits in disease

October is breast cancer awareness month, which means pink ribbons and literature about getting mammograms litter the landscape even more than they normally do during the rest of the year. But many women who have survived the disease are questioning the role environmental chemicals play in contributing to breast cancer, and wondering why groups like Susan G. Komen for the Cure and the American Cancer Society (ACS) -- groups that claim to be doing everything possible to find a cure -- have nothing to say about it.

Why Liberals Don't Stand a Chance in the Corporate Media

Last March, when President Obama announced he was fast-tracking a bunch of deepwater oil leases, mainstream media commentators told us what a politically sophisticated move it was. He was showing the "courage" to defy his base among the anti-drilling crowd and when those dolphin-huggers screamed foul, he stood his ground. A few weeks later, when the Deepwater Horizon/Macondo oil disaster demonstrated how ecologically devastating this type of drilling can be, Obama's previous pandering to Big Oil didn't look so brilliant after all. The environmentalists among the Democratic base were right, the corporate media talking heads (and Obama) were wrong.

March to Nowhere

The liberal preoccupation with positive forms of propaganda ignores the root of our problem. The tea party and hate mongers on Fox such as Glenn Beck, however repugnant, are the manifestation of the crisis, not its cause. The forces assaulting the remnants of American democracy will not be cowed or discredited with rallies, such as the one in Washington on Saturday. We will blunt these rising anti-democratic forces only when we organize outside conventional systems of power. It means dismantling the permanent war economy and the corporate state. It means an end to foreclosures and bank repossessions. It means a functional health care system for all Americans. It means taking care of our poor and unemployed. And it means a system of government that is freed from corporate interests.

Wall Street's Global Race to the Bottom

Having created giant loopholes in the Dodd-Frank law recently passed by Congress (keeping "customized" derivatives underground, for example), fighting off attempts to cap the size of the biggest banks, and keeping capital requirements relatively modest, Wall Street is now busily whittling back the rest through regulations.
