"Ethan Huff"- Take action NOW to stop FDA from turning your vitamins and supplements into unapproved 'food additives'

(NaturalNews) We here at NaturalNews cannot stress enough how important it is to take the time to fight back against the US Food and Drug Administration's (FDA) latest assault against vitamins and dietary supplements.

Proposed guidelines put forth by the agency for "New Dietary Ingredients" (NDIs) propose treating vitamins, herbs, and dietary supplements as synthetic food preservatives, which means pulling many of them off the market, and subjecting the rest to extreme regulatory protocols that will drive up costs and severely limit availability.

The Dietary Supplement Health and Information Act of 1994 (DSHEA), as many NaturalNews readers likely already know, was a major victory achieved for health freedom. It is also the foundation upon which the dietary supplement market as well as the health of millions of Americans has thrived.

"Mike Adams"- Investigation panel concludes U.S. government conspired with doctors to commit murderous medical experiments in Guatemala

(NaturalNews) U.S. government medical researchers, including those from the National Institute of Health (NIH), engaged in heinous crimes through secret medical experiments on Guatemalan medical experiments, concluded an investigative report commissioned by President Obama. The report concluded that:

• The U.S. government knowingly funded and deliberately engaged in criminal medical experiments against Guatemalan prisoners from 1946 - 1948, and that the people engaged in these crimes were then promoted to high levels of influence in the medical community.

• At least 5,500 people were drafted into the experiments, including children, women and the mentally ill. The number deliberately infected with sexually-transmitted diseases (STDs) exceeded 1,300 (that we know of).

"Jonathan Benson"- Exposed: Military contractors hired to create fake Facebook accounts, infiltrate opposing groups

(NaturalNews) A secret campaign to take out groups and organizations that oppose the policies and agendas of the US Chamber of Commerce (USCC) and the US government has been outed, thanks to an archive of private emails obtained by Think Progress. According to reports, USCC hired HBGary, Federal and several other defense contractors to create fake accounts on social media sites like Facebook and Twitter in order to sabotage progressive groups critical of the organization's platform.

Top secret government efforts to thwart opposition are nothing new, especially as they involve social media sites. Julian Assange, founder of WikiLeaks, for instance, recently told Russia Today that Facebook is "the most appalling spying machine ever invented," and that it is routinely used by US Intelligence to illegally collect private information on individuals (http://www.naturalnews.com/032373_F...).

"Mike Adams"- Counterfeit Culture- useful observations for understanding why collapse is inevitable

(NaturalNews) Through a devolving web of greed, self-serving power and a departure from fundamental ethics, Western culture has, over the last hundred years, become the counterfeit culture.

Nothing is real anymore -- not the food, not the money, and certainly not the evening news. And because it's not real, it's not sustainable. That's why it's headed for collapse, which is all too real, as many people are about to find out.

In the mean time, here are some observations about the counterfeit culture in which we all frustratingly find ourselves. It's all about corporations, governments and institutions being "in the business of" counterfeiting something -- faking something or pretending to create something of value when they really aren't. Ring a bell?

"Dina Cappiello & Jeff Donn" - Earthquake Threat to Nuclear Reactors Far Higher Than Realized

by Dina Cappiello, Jeff Donn

WASHINGTON — The risk that an earthquake would cause a severe accident at a U.S. nuclear plant is greater than previously thought, 24 times as high in one case, according to an AP analysis of preliminary government data.

"Joe Uehlein" - American Labor: A Sustainable Path

http://www.commondreams.org/view/2011/09/01-13

Published on Thursday, September 1, 2011 by CommonDreams.org

This Labor Day, as union membership falls to a mere seven percent of private sector workers and bargaining and political clout shrink to match, two roads diverge for American labor. One is to attempt to find a niche within an economic-political system that is ever more shaped by short-term greed and is therefore ever more unsustainable economically, socially, and environmentally. The other is to align with the long-term interest of workers in transforming that system to provide for a sustainable future for the planet and its people. Organized labor will have a better future if it chooses the second road.Joe Uehlein and his daughter came to support the Tar Sands Action on August 24th, 2011. "To have a future itself," writes Uehlein, "Organized labor needs to reorient itself around the objective of providing a sustainable future for all working people and the world we inhabit. That means putting millions of people to work creating a sustainable economy, society, and environment." (Photo Credit: Shadia Fayne Wood)

Labor has always had two hearts beating within a single breast – one representing a particular group of workers, the other responding to the wider needs of working people as a whole. But now unions can only protect their members by championing the interests of all working people.

"Dahr Jamail" - The Return of the BP Disaster?

http://www.commondreams.org/headline/2011/09/01-9

Published on Thursday, September 1, 2011 by Al Jazeera English

Oil is resurfing again not far from the location of the BP Macondo Well off the Gulf of Mexico, 15 months on.

by Dahr Jamail

Fifteen months after BP’s crippled Macondo Well in the Gulf of Mexico caused the worst environmental disaster in US history, oil and oil sheen covering several square miles of water are surfacing not far from BP’s well.

According to oil trackers, globs of oil have been spotted near the Macondo Well (Bonny Schumaker/On Wings of Care)

According to oil trackers with the organization On Wings of Care who have been monitoring the oil since early August, rainbow-tinted slicks and thicker globs of oil have been visible.

"BP and NOAA [National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration] have had all these ships out there doing grid searches looking at things, so hopefully now they’ll take a look at this," Bonny Schumaker, president and pilot of On Wings of Care, told Al Jazeera.

"GM Freeze" - It's official: Glyphosate used on GM crops found in US rivers, rainfall

GM Freeze, 31 August 2011
http://www.gmfreeze.org/news-releases/165/

Monitoring by the US Geological Survey (USGS) has revealed that glyphosate and its breakdown product Aminomethylphosphonic acid (known as AMPA) are frequently found in rainfall and rivers in the Mississippi Basin, where most GM crops tolerant to glyphosate are grown. [1]

Glyphosate (the basis of Monsanto's brand name product Roundup) is widely used in the US with Monsanto's Roundup Ready GM crops, which have been genetically modified to tolerate the weedkiller, so they survive when a field is sprayed with it. Herbicide tolerant GM plants are not currently grown in the UK due to concerns about adverse impacts on wildlife associated with the loss of habitat caused by the weedkiller. However Monsanto has lobbied persistently for their introduction. Roundup Ready soya and maize are imported from the US for use in animal feed, and meat and dairy products fed on GM feed are not labelled in many British supermarkets.

The USGS results are based on two studies of rain and watersheds in agricultural areas of the Mississippi Basin where the "the greatest use" of glyphosate takes place to control weeds in GM maize, soya and cotton tolerant to glyphosate/Roundup. The USGS reports that glyphosate use rose by more than eight fold, to 88,000 tons, in the 15 years to 2007, further eroding the myth that GM crops reduce chemical use.

Monsanto has repeatedly denied that glyphosate washes off fields in significant amounts, claiming the herbicide binds to soil particles and therefore cannot be leached. [2]

The USGS results confirm warnings from other countries that glyphosate is more mobile in some soils than the biotech corporation is prepared to admit. [3]

The presence of glyphosate and AMPA in surface waters means that drinking water quality and aquatic wildlife may be put at risk. Studies have shown many aquatic species are affected by the herbicide and its breakdown product, and there is growing concern about the safety of the product for human health. [4] In addition the overuse of glyphosate on GM soya, cotton and maize crops is driving an escalation and spread of problem weeds resistant to the weedkiller, meaning even more Roundup has to be used, often in combination with other herbicides, in an attempt to control these new “super” weeds.

"Sherwood Ross" - Pentagon's New Slavery System Triggers Riots in Occupied States

http://www.opednews.com/articles/Pentagon-s-New-Slavery-Sys-by-Sherwood-Ross-110901-307.html

Many of the 70,000 "third country national"(TCN) service workers employed in Afghanistan and Iraq "recount having been robbed of wages, injured without compensation, subjected to sexual assault, and held in conditions resembling indentured servitude by their subcontractor bosses," reports Sarah Stillman in a June 6th article in The New Yorker magazine titled "The Invisible Army." The arrangement, in fact, is very near to what one might describe as slavery.

"These workers, primarily from South Asia and Africa, often live in barbed-wire compounds on U.S. bases, (and) eat at meagre chow halls..." Stillman reports. "A large number are employed by fly-by-night subcontractors who are financed by the American taxpayer but who often operate outside the law."

Since the U.S. invasions, more than 2,000 contractor fatalities and 51,000 contractor injuries have been reported in Iraq and Afghanistan as the soaring casualty rates "are now on a par with those of U.S. troops in both war zones," Stillman writes.

"Dan Mage" - The Tea Party and Fake Libertarians: Rebellion, Backlash or Death Spasms of a Hate Cult

 http://www.opednews.com/articles/The-Tea-Party-and-Fake-Lib-by-Dan-Mage-110830-750.html

September 1, 2011

By Dan Mage

Author's Note: When I first published this on associated content in November of 2010, the TP seemed more like an annoyance than an actual threat. Now it is becoming apparent that they can do some real damage. This is unfortunate, however I firmly believe that they are still doomed.

Witch Hunters, Queer Bashers, Cross Burners and The Thanatocentric Culture

Hope is the opiate of the liberal. It feels good until you run out of it. Hope is sold to the poor, sometimes by pushers who "get high on their supply" too, and it provides symptomatic relief without touching the pathology at the root of the pain.

Obama has failed to bring the "change we can believe in," and while he is guilty of dealing in and indulging in the hope-dope, he warned us even during his inaugural address that if we wait for the federal government to fix things, we might be waiting a long time.

Although Obama never presented any real threat to the status-quo, and has done more or less the same things that Bush was doing, and would have done too, (with the exception of the "Obama Care" debacle, and stances on cultural issues that turned out to be mostly talk), he's brought the haters out of the woodwork.

They hate taxes, but then again most of us do. They want to eliminate "entitlements" except for the ones that pay their bills. They are divided on issues of personal liberty. When former New Mexico governor Gary Johnson suggested to a Tea Party rally that the time had finally come to legalize cannabis, he was met with both cheers, and boos mingled with shouts of "No, that's wrong!" The most horrified voices seemed to be those of middle aged and elderly women.
