"Mike Whitney" - EuroZone Deathwatch

There’s no way to overstate the calamity that’s unfolding across the Atlantic. The eurozone is imploding. The smart money has already fled EU banks for safe quarters in the US while political leaders frantically look for a way to prevent a seemingly-unavoidable meltdown. Here’s an excerpt from a post at The Streetlight blog that explains what’s going on:

“…ECB data seems to indicate that monetary financial institutions (MFIs) in Europe have been moving their deposits out of European banks. Where is that money going?….

"PF Louis"- BMJ had secret financial ties to Merck during publication of articles attacking Wakefield

http://www.naturalnews.com/033516_BMJ_financial_ties.html

(NaturalNews) When a corrupt medical group wants to discourage dissidence from within, it targets a high profile figure to disgrace. This intimidates others from doing the right thing if it disrupts the lies and profits of Big Pharma.

Dr. Andrew Wakefield was a high profile scapegoat, smeared with lies from the media and medical journals to protect the UK from vaccine injury payouts while maintaining high profits for the vaccine industry.

Dr. Andrew Wakefield's Research

Dr. Wakefield arrived at Royal Free Hospital in London to coordinate and record research that had already started for seven children. This number increased to twelve and consequently was called the Wakefield 12 two years later. The gastroenterology treatments and study had started on the original seven and was headed by Dr. John Walker-Smith.

Parents of those twelve children took them to the Royal Free Hospital because of its reputation for Pediatric Gastroenterology. Their family doctors had failed to diagnose and/or treat their kids. The kids were suffering terribly from bowel disorders and exhibiting autistic behavior, pushing the parents to the limit. These were not mere tummy aches and diarrhea.

"Diabetes Risk 80% Lower For Those With Multiple Good Lifestyle Factors, Compared To Those With Worst"

Medical News Today, 06 Sep 2011

http://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/233899.php

Individuals with good lifestyle factors, such as not over-consuming alcohol, eating a healthy diet, doing exercise, not smoking and being of normal weight, are 80% less likely to develop Diabetes Type 2 over an 11-year period, compared to those with bad lifestyle factors, researchers from the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute, Bethesda, and National Cancer Institute, Rockville, Maryland, and AARP, Washington, DC. Reported in Annals of Internal Medicine.

The authors explained that several studies have demonstrated a link between diet, smoking status, alcohol consumption, physical activity, bodyweight, and diet, and Diabetes Type 2 risk. They have shown that improvements in lifestyle, such as doing more exercise, can postpone or prevent diabetes onset.

"Staff Writers"- Japan's ex-PM Kan feared 'uninhabitable Tokyo': report

Tokyo (AFP) Sept 6, 2011

http://www.terradaily.com/reports/Japans_ex-PM_Kan_feared_uninhabitable_Tokyo_report_999.html

Japan's former premier Naoto Kan feared Tokyo would be rendered uninhabitable by the Fukushima nuclear crisis, he said in an interview published Tuesday in which he recalled the "spine-chilling" thought.

He added it would have been "impossible" to evacuate all of the 30 million people in the event of a mass exclusion zone encompassing Tokyo and the Kanto region, and said that this risk made nuclear power a too dangerous option.

"Deserted scenes of Tokyo without a single man around came across my mind," he told the Tokyo Shimbun newspaper, describing his thoughts as the nuclear emergency deepened in the days after the March 11 quake and tsunami.

"Staff Writers"- Pacific shows climate change a reality: UN chief

Auckland (AFP) Sept 6, 2011

http://www.terradaily.com/reports/Pacific_shows_climate_change_a_reality_UN_chief_999.html

UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon said Tuesday that visiting Pacific nations threatened by rising seas had reinforced his belief that climate change was real and posed a genuine threat to humanity.

Ban stopped in the Solomon Islands and Kiribati on his way to New Zealand for the Pacific Islands Forum (PIF), and described the two small nations as "on the front line" of the climate change issue.

"Michael Hudson"- The State and Local Budget Crisis

Global Research, September 6, 2011

http://globalresearch.ca/index.php?context=va&aid=26420

The cost of the 2011 cutbacks in federal spending will fall most directly on consumers and retirees by scaling back Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid and social spending programs. The population also will suffer indirectly, by lower federal revenue sharing with U.S. states and cities. The following chart from the National Income and Product Accounts (NIPA, Table 3.3) shows how federal financial aid has helped cities shift the tax burden off real estate, although the main shift has been off property taxes onto income – and onto consumption (sales) taxes.

"Alexander Bolton"- Obama's Job Speech: Democrats Fear It’s Too Late

http://thehill.com/homenews/administration/179815-dems-fear-its-too-late

President Obama’s new effort to revive the ailing economy may be too little, too late, according to Democrats and liberal policy experts.

“The president has to bring forward a bold proposal. He can’t start the process by negotiating with himself,” said Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.), who caucuses with Senate Democrats. “He needs to say, ‘If we do A, B and C, we can create millions of new jobs,’ and take it to the American people.” They contend that Obama missed his chance to turn the economy around by November 2012, but still want him to call on Congress to move an aggressive new jobs plan — even if it has little chance of passing.

"David Sirota"- The "Shock Doctrine" Comes to Your Neighborhood Classroom

http://www.salon.com/news/politics/feature/2011/09/06/shockreform/index.html

Corporate reformers use the fiscal crisis and campaign contributions to hype an unproven school agenda

by David Sirota

"Let's hope the fiscal crisis doesn't get better too soon. It'll slow down reform." -- Tom Watkins, a consultant, summarizes the corporate education reform movement's current strategy to the Sunday New York Times

The Shock Doctrine, as articulated by journalist Naomi Klein, describes the process by which corporate interests use catastrophes as instruments to maximize their profit. Sometimes the events they use are natural (earthquakes), sometimes they are human-created (the 9/11 attacks) and sometimes they are a bit of both (hurricanes made stronger by human-intensified global climate change). Regardless of the particular cataclysm, though, the Shock Doctrine suggests that in the aftermath of a calamity, there is always corporate method in the smoldering madness - a method based in Disaster Capitalism.

"James Hansen"- Why the Tar Sands Pipeline Will Be Game Over for Our Planet

posted on September 6, 2011, Printed on September 7, 2011

http://www.alternet.org/story/152314/why_the_tar_sands_pipeline_will_be_game_over_for_our_planet

Tar Sands Action organized a civil disobedience sit–in at The White House to oppose construction of the Keystone XL tar sands pipeline that began on August 20 and will culminate in a big rally on September 3rd. On August 29 I joined 60 religious leaders and other fellow protestors. I was arrested that day. But before I was handcuffed, I addressed fellow activists who had gathered outside The White House with these words:

Let us return for a moment to the election night in 2008. As I sat in our farmhouse in Pennsylvania, watching Barack Obama's victory speech, I turned my head aside so my wife would not see the tears in my eyes. I suspect that millions cried. It was a great day for America.
